A tiny, RGBW-illuminated, clickable Trackball Breakout perfect for adding navigation or control to a Raspberry Pi or Raspberry Pi Pico project.
This trackball module, inspired by a classic fruit-flavored phone, features x/y directional tracking, a click button, and an RGBW (red/green/blue/white) LED beneath the clear trackball for illumination and visual feedback.
Use the Trackball Breakout with an Arduino supporting USB HID as a tiny mouse, as a colour/brightness controller for an LED matrix breakout, or as a navigation controller for a Cosmic Unicorn. The grippy rubber trackball surface allows tracking on a flat surface, similar to a traditional rollerball mouse.
Compatible with the Breakout Garden system, the Trackball Breakout fits into one of six slots for simple project creation. Trackball breakouts made after April 2024 are Qwiic/STEMMA QT compatible, enabling connection to a wide range of microcontrollers and HATs.
Features:
Mini trackball with click button
RGBW LED beneath trackball
Moulded plastic casing with mounting holes
Nuvoton MS51XB9AE MCU
I2C interface (address 0x0A/0x0B, cut trace)
Qwiic/STEMMA QT connector
3.3V or 5V compatible with reverse polarity protection
Works with Arduino, Raspberry Pi (Python), and Raspberry Pi Pico (C++/MicroPython)
Kit Includes:
Trackball breakout
1x5 pin header
1x5 right-angle socket header
The breakout board allows soldering of the right-angle female header to connect directly to the bottom-left 5 pins of the Raspberry Pi GPIO (pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9).
